When Should I Consider Physical Rehabilitation?

The physical rehabilitation services available from Optimum Health Rehab have broad appeal to a diverse array of people. Patients frequently visit us for treatment of injuries suffered in car accidents, sports mishaps, slips and falls, and other personal injuries. We also receive physical therapy patients who are struggling with fibromyalgia, shoulder pain, neck pain, sciatica, and back pain stemming from workplace injuries, repetitive stress, and overuse.

Some physical rehabilitation services, such as soft tissue massages, might be prescribed for wellness or preventive reasons. Others are specifically targeted at injuries or diseases that affect joints or lead to increased inflammation.

If you’re struggling with chronic or acute pain and you’re looking for non-invasive alternatives to more traditional pain management strategies, give your nearest Optimum Health Rehab a call.

Massage Therapies in Georgia

Most of our Georgia offices also offer rehabilitative massage therapies. Depending on the source of your pain, we might recommend a:

Myofascial Release

The muscles in your body are supported by something called myofascial tissue, and like other tissues in your body, they can become inflamed or stiff, causing pain. If our diagnostics reveal that your pain may originate in the myofascial tissues, we might recommend myofascial release therapy.

In a myofascial release session, a qualified massage therapist will gently work on the myofascial tissues, probing for areas of tension or stiffness. Typically, myofascial tissue should feel soft and pliable. When the therapist locates stiff areas, they will use techniques to release pressure and tension in the afflicted area. Your therapist will then repeat the process on these key areas until the rigidity is fully cleared.

Trigger Point Massage

In some patients with chronic pain, we find that trigger point massage is useful for reducing pain and improving function. You can think of trigger points as spasms or knots in the muscle. Sometimes they cause pain right where the spasm is; in other cases, they may cause referred pain in other areas of the body. Trigger points are believed to occur due to muscle overload, which can be acute, sustained, or repetitive.

A skilled massage therapist has knowledge of how muscles, tendons, and joints interact and will trace a patient’s symptoms back to knots in their muscles. The therapist will then apply pressure to the knot for 30 to 90 seconds, or until they note a change in the affected area. Again, the pressure may be slightly uncomfortable, but if it becomes painful, your therapist can adjust the amount of pressure.

Customized Rehabilitative Plans that Incorporate Traditional and Alternative Treatments

Once a patient is diagnosed appropriately, they will be prescribed a customized treatment plan that may include chiropractic care, physical rehab, and/or massage therapy.

The diverse combination of both traditional and alternative physical rehabilitation treatments our Optimum Health Rehab injury and pain management professionals can offer help us stand out among Georgia accident chiropractors.
